1. Mother- Daughter First Dance

For brides that may have a deceased family member (dad) at their wedding or for bride’s that had a mom that filled both shoes, The mother-daughter dance is the perfect way to have a tear jerking moment that is just as special and celebrates someone who played a major roll getting you to your special day.

2. First Group Dance

A first group dance is the perfect way to get the dance floor all warmed up. A great alternative to father-daughter dance that allows everyone or even a select special few to celebrate becoming a newlywed!

3. Dedicated Dad Song

For brides who still want to include their deceased dad on their wedding day, the perfect way to celebrate his memory and honor his presence is by having a dedicated first song. This song can be a sweet memory for the bride to share with her family on the dance floor.

4. Skip It

Just because it’s a wedding, that doesn’t mean that everything can has to be by the book. Even though the father-daughter dance is apart of the tradition, you can let your DJ know ahead of time that it’s not something you want included in your ceremony. You can also skip straight to the mother-son dance and have that be in place of the father-daughter dance.

5. Give a gift

For some brides, their father may be present but may not be a social butterfly. If you’re a bride & your dad is deciding to skip the father-daughter dance, maybe have that dedicated time to give a special sentimental gift or dedicate a speech. That way, dad can still be celebrated without all the extras!

6. Dedicate a toast

If you have a father or dad that’s handicapped and can’t do the father-daughter dance, dedicating a toast can also be a wonderful gesture of appreciation.

7. Uncle/Grandpa or Father-figure

If you’re dad isn’t present but you have a grandpa, uncle, brother or any other male figure that you’d like to incorporate into your day, go for it! You can even accompany the dance with a slideshow to keep your dad in in memory and in the special moment.

8. Father in Law

Usually the father in law is someone that wanders onto the dance floor after the dances are done. This might be the perfect alternative to the father daughter dance if you’re close with your father in law. This way you both get to be celebrated.

9. Money Dance (Quiz Show)

The money dance is a fun way to celebrate without getting too much into the emotional side of things. This is by far one of my favorite alternatives to the father-daughter dance. The money dance happens when the bride and groom get’s on the dance floor and the guests have to pin/ drop money to get a personal dance with the bride or groom. You can also host a little quiz show and whoever get’s it correct can have a dance. Fun right?!

10. Did someone say karaoke?

Yes I said karaoke! What better way to get the guests laughing and ready to party than by having a mini karaoke battle between the bride and groom? If you’re into non-tradition and want to keep things light this is for you.
